May. 19th, 2023

This session was a somewhat shorter one, on November 4, 2017.

We were starting from Kolinghen and headed toward the opera with our party of Cyan the knight, Locke the thief, Celes the white mage, and Mog the black mage. The first thing I observed was Cyan's damage being... somewhat comparable to vanilla Cyan? But it's an odd situation because he is decked out with offense-specific gear and much lower-levelled than everyone else.

And the first real point of interest was this, around the 9:50 mark:
Cyan turns off noclip
Cyan walked straight through the wall to his left during this event! I was rather concerned that I screwed up some event logic, and it happened because Mog was present or something, but some later investigation found that this issue was somehow introduced by the Ted Woolsey Uncensored Edition patch. After the earlier Mogret issue, this was the second major issue with that patch we observed, and it wouldn't quite be the last.

Related to Mog and messed up events, I wanted to see what would happen if I talked to Mog in his seat during the opera, only to find that he just... literally wasn't in a chair when the opera's first scene pans back down to where Locke is sitting. He was back in the party when we got control of them, though.

Although it's very observable with some parties in a normal playthrough, I noted it was really weird that Ultros threatened the party with "I owe you one" because he has never actually met Cyan, Locke, Celes or Mog at any point in the game. The actual battle with Ultros was accidentally rather anticlimactic, ending as soon as Mog cast Thundara.
Adios!

Once again, there was a bit of an event issue in the scene where Celes and Setzer flip the coin. Celes ended up standing in an improper spot. Then we were on the imperial continent. Apparently I had changed the Tiger Mask equip, which was no longer useful in this hack, into a Triangle Hat like in Final Fantasy Tactics; it's not statistically useful but can teach the Slow spell, which both black and white mages have access to. Mog and Celes used this time wandering around and shopping to learn some spells.

We didn't really progress the game any further, though, so we'll enter the Magitek facility next time. I was expecting Mog to carry the team somewhat given I don't have this game's typical arsenal of defense-ignoring attacks.
