Final Fantasy VI Classic Jobs Part VII
May. 21st, 2023 02:12 pmI streamed this seventh session on November 8, 2017.
Almost right away, I decided to try using Morph with Setzer, which is my stand-in Focus command for the black mages. It works! But as expected, Setzer temporarily turns into a naked purple lady; worse things have happened. I don't really end up making substantial use of this.
I also did a short general recap of the rules and intent for this hack and playthrough early in this stream, around the 4-minute mark.
We went to Vector and got ready for the banquet. I had a good time talking to the soldiers, despite not having a really great way to dispatch the Sergeants quickly as one normally would. (I do have Setzer as a black mage, but he hadn't actually learned any spells.) I believe I managed to speak to all of the soldiers, but the banquet questions were actually worrisome since the translation is different. I end up discussing these differences, too - it was pretty interesting. I ended up getting all of the banquet prizes.
I realized when Locke, Terra and Shadow got off the boat that I would very temporarily have two thieves in the party at this point! I completely forgot about this when I was planning the run. I just kept Shadow unequipped and used Flee to escape all battles in order to better adhere to the rules, and dashed up to Thamasa. There was only a single battle, actually.
Then, Strago the white mage joined the team and got equipped as we charged into a burning house. Strago usually shows up ready for action with Aqua Rake and whatnot, but he's joining us with literally no spells, so he can either whack things with a stick or use Pray. I was very, very bad at dodging the flames/Balloons; I dodged maybe two of them in the entire building.
The battle with FlameEater. started out about as good as possible. Locke very quickly stole Flametongue, followed by Terra morphing and using a single-target Blizzara spell for over 5000 damage.

Since Morph ended and Terra did try to wipe out some Balloons, it ended up taking three Blizzaras to end the fight.

Once I left Thamasa with my proper thief, white mage, black mage team, I took some time to steal Gaia Gears from the Baskervors/Briareuses. I got four of them, which was actually fairly quick.
The third battle with Ultros is another one, like Vargas earlier, where some edits were necessary. The traditional way to beat this battle is, after a certain point, use Relm's Sketch command. In this hack, though, Relm has no Sketch command. I don't remember exactly what changes I made to this battle, but I guess I may have just reduced his HP but not to a trivial amount? Either way, it kinda worked out. The battle ended rather unceremoniously:

I finished up the rest of this area and saved before initiating the next cutscene.

Relm joined with a pretty low level, with a really low HP total compared to the rest despite her knightliness. Still, it's nice to once again have a full, traditional party.
