This tenth play session was played on October 24, 2018, a couple of weeks after the previous one.

We started by taking Rafa the naked chemist to Yuguo Woods. Between the newly-boosted Fire spells and our access to white magic and items, my team is actually quite competent when it comes to battles with so many undead enemies. The undead enemy mages are wearing White Robes which makes them resistant to elemental attacks, but that didn't matter too much.
We beat an enemy Time Mage with Cure 2.
The battle seemed like it was going pretty smoothly, but I mis-targetted a spell with Lenna at a bad time because I incorrectly assumed the gender of a person named "Seth". This issue ended up prolonging the end of it quite a bit. Furthermore, I neglected to fully consider when and where the undead enemies might re-engage with their 50% chance at revival, so a knocked-out black mage walked up and knocked Lenna out when she was close to ending the fight.
This undead mage's revival was a pivotal moment!
We managed to recover from this situation. Rafa got knocked out about 5 times in this battle, and I really wanted her to throw a few potions for Faris to be able to learn X-Potion. At the point where we had one enemy standing and Rafa on her feet, Ramza had banked 299 JP for chemist, so, indeed, it finally happened! I had been thinking that X-Potion might be a substantial benefit for Faris in the Wiegraf fight (although that fight is also modified to allow Wiegraf's sold to be stolen). It was nice to finally get X-Potion, anyway.

Next up was Riovanes Castle, starting with the gate. My Twitch chat was oddly active and TSHMireille said, of Rafa and Malak, "Either of them getting to critical health makes them leave."... so I had Krile walk up and hit Rafa with a stick. Sure enough, Malak was gone. The rest of the enemy force was just a bunch of knights and archers. Lenna used Flare twice to take out knights, which may have been excessive and used pretty much all of her MP up front but definitely eased the action economy. Before long our opposition was down to just three archers... who took kind of a long time to defeat.
These archers took ages to get to and wear down.

Finally for this day, I did the inside of Riovanes Castle. As I said, I was wary of how tough this battle could be with Faris being exclusively a thief (other than the item command), and made a modification to the game such that Wiegraf no longer has innate Maintenance/Safeguard. This means Faris' best shot at this fight would be stealing Wiegraf's sword... although even that doesn't make the fight a sure thing.

The first thing Wiegraf did was Lightning Stab me for 210 of my 218 HP. My success rate on Steal Weapon was 38%. It did not work the first time.
Don't worry everyone, Wiegraf gained a level.
On the second attempt, I forgot to re-equip before the fight. However, my steal attempt worked! It didn't end up mattering as we got Earth Slashed and still died immediately after. What we really needed to do was pull off the Steal Weapon at full HP.

Third attempt, steal failed, got Lightning Stabbed twice.

Fourth attempt, I tried using a Green Beret for an extra point of speed. This lowers Faris' HP just enough to be a real downside, but it gives me slightly better steal odds and an occasional double turn. It didn't work out this time, though.

Fifth attempt, we got the first turn and succeeded on the steal! However, he countered with a punch for 105 of our 210 HP. If you do the math, you can probably reason why this didn't work out well.

Sixth attempt, I tried it with a Green Beret and an Elf Mantle on to help me evade the punches. Steal didn't work and we died.

On the seventh attempt, I tried the same setup. I theorized that, since the AI favours 100% accurate attacks, Wiegraf was more likely to use something weaker but certain to hit, like Earth Slash, instead of punching Faris in the back. Steal was successful and there was no counter.
Swordless Wiegraf!
With Wiegraf dealing 105 of our 210 HP with each punch, I thought it would be grand to just... gain one level, and thus at least one max HP. I didn't have a whole lot of potions left, but I did it.
Faris gained a level so that Wiegraf would deal just under half of her max HP.
I was really worried I might require a shopping trip almost regardless of my luck. My next move was to steal his Diamond Armlet, which only served to lower his offense. Given that Wiegraf's PA is factored into his unarmed attacks twice, it makes a pretty big difference! His punches went from 105 damage to 78 damage.

Next, we got his Diamond Armor, which is effectively like dealing nearly 100 damage. Trying to get Wiegraf's shield on the next turn didn't work, and I had to use my final X-Potion to recover from his Earth Slash. It was getting dicey! I managed to steal his Diamond Helmet next, and dodged his counter punch.

At this point, if I could land two hits with Faris' knife, I'd win! I took one stab, and his counter punch knocked Faris down to 4 HP. Yikes. I moved out of the way and Wiegraf lined up a Wave Fist: if he hit, I died, and if he missed, I'd win.
Faris pulled the most necessary dodge ever!
With that, we did it! In fact, the finishing attack was an unlikely critical. I was in a hurry because of some personal time constraints, and this was quite likely to be my last shot regardless, but I was really pleased to have beaten the Wiegraf fight (despite it being somewhat modified!).

For Velius, I just wanted to pile on the damage directly rather than messing around with the demons or anything. Lenna lined up a 603 damage Flare. That resolved, and Krile got ready for a Holy spell while Bartz and Faris tried to keep the mages upright.
Krile used Holy for 341 damage.
Krile ended the fight! And we're done with what was one of the scariest parts of the run.
The roof can still be scary sometimes, though. We'll deal with that next time.
