This play session was played on December 31, 2020... about 22 months since the prior session and nearly three years since the start of the run. Whoops.

Note that between the prior session and this one, the COVID-19 pandemic began and was well underway.

Picking up this run nearly two years later was odd. I started by reviewing the team so that I would know what was going on. What was a bit funny was comparing the relative usefulness of Caution and Catch as reaction abilities; Catch is only useful against ninjas and I was saying it's a niche use case and Caution sucks but comes into play more often. Well, there are ninjas in at least one of the Bethla Garrison battles, so perhaps I should've considered it!

Without really paying attention to the scenario, I picked to approach the south wall of Bethla Garrison. This battle is against three knights, two archers, one thief and one ninja. I quickly realized Catch could've come in handy, but it wasn't going to be some huge difference-maker.

We took out the thief quickly and the ninja was still standing when Faris stole the bow from one of the archers.
Faris stole a bow.
For such a strongly reputed fortress, we blew the defenses away. It's somewhat remarkable given that I hadn't been playing this for so long.
Just a couple of knights left, and we're sittin' pretty. We won!

The next battle is the sluice battle, which is fun for being the only battle in the game with an objective that isn't purely combat. I was excited for it! The beginning setup seemed favourable, and then I found that Faris had amazingly good odds to use Steal Heart on one of the knights on the switches.
The knight on the switch joined our team! We have stolen his heart!
I really thought this had a chance to be super cool, but his allies attacked him and cleared the charm status. Actually, what was kind of weird is that more than one of his allies attacked him. Oh well. That knight was down less than a full round later. Both knights died on their switches, so we had to wait for their death timers to tick down.
The second knight dies on his sluice switch.
We ended up pulling the second switch with one knight still standing.
We hit the switch and caused a massive flood. "Nobody's wants you to be King!!"

There was over 10 minutes left in the session and I didn't play another battle: I yoinked Orlandu's Excalibur, did lots of propositions and a bit of shopping, and talked to the flower girl in Zarghidas. That was all for today.
