The tenth session of this "classic jobs" playthrough was played on January 26th, 2024.
Right away, we used our new submarine to enter the Gelnika. I cleared the first room (where Conformer was probably the best prize, or the Escort Guard) and then ran into Reno and Rude.

They were not very threatening, and Yufflee was very good at her thievery: we got Rude's Ziedrich and Reno's useful Tough Ring (spelled correctly!) each on their first try.

This party doesn't have much in terms of variety on the offense, so the rest of the fight was pretty much regular attacks and limit breaks... which worked just fine. Reno left first.

The rest of the Gelnika didn't hold much interest. The enemies were manageable although the flower-looking Unknowns have absurdly powerful physical attacks so we only fought a couple of those. We got the Heaven's Cloud but I kept Cloud equipped with his Apocalypse.
I did a couple of laps of the depths before finding the Key To Ancients.

At this point I was wandering around for odds n' ends. I got Venus Gospel, Key to Sector 5, Premium Heart, Sneak Glove, and Final Heaven. I actually put the Sneak Glove on my thief (Yuffie still) for quite a while.

With that, we went north to see Bugenhagen and learn about Holy, triggering Diamond Weapon's maybe-cute, definitely-furious attack.

The Diamond Weapon fight was kind of interesting. Yuffie stole the Rising Sun right away, and then the only issue was, uh, winning. We had three characters with zero offensive magic against a physical-immune enemy. Fortunately, limit breaks still deal damage, so Cloud knee-capped Diamond Weapon quite a bit.

I even tried throwing out a few spellcasting items in order to do something. I wanted to poison the enemy, but it was immune. I had a few Dragon Scales, and those worked, but they did under 2000 damage: nothing in the face of our limit breaks.

With two Omnislashses, one Catastrophe, and a small number of thrown items, we won. Cloud took a selfie for the occasion.

We had another long batch of cutscenes here and then we descended into Midgar for the last time. Unlike last time I played, there was nothing too tricky in the fights here, which I can partly attribute to having two characters with Ribbons on: I seem to recall a lot of confusion status two years ago. Some enemies, like Behemoths, were easier than I expected or remembered.

While I did accidentally skip a few items, I think I got the important ones, like the easily missable Aegis Armlet (which I would then proceed to never use).
I went all the way counter-clockwise in the train tunnels to grab some sources and the W-Item materia (which my thieves can use). Then we ran into the Turks. We chose to fight them because we wanted their stuff. Yuffie quickly stole all of their stuff while Cloud and Barret generally held their ground, and afterward we unleashed a couple of limit breaks and that was that!

We did some thorough treasure hunting around the Shinra Building, although there was very little here that was actually going to be useful. Maybe nothing.

Next up, we ran into Proud Clod. Just before this part, I figured all of the most important items to steal were behind us so I swapped Yuffie the thief for Black XII the black mage. I thought the Jamar Armor might make trouble for our offensive spells so I took out the armor first, although we didn't have a single spell reflected. It's an exciting fight by its nature - I love fighting huge enemies - but very easy.

There's no defeat animation for this battle so it ends rather unceremoniously. This would seem to be because of the scene that plays afterward.
I was worried that I skipped a Mystile but it's in a chest just after the fight. I got Barret's Missing Score and then encountered Hojo.

I don't really remember strategy for these fights... other than "stay alive and deal damage" which I suppose you could say about anything. Hojo keeps reviving his sample buddies though, so I thought multi-targeting would be nice. Thus, Red XIII busted out Ultima, and indeed that accelerated things.

The second form, just violence. No real tricks.

Same for the third form, although he kept using Combo on Cloud which meant Cloud got a lot of counter attacks, too.

With this, we opened up the game's final area! We watched a few more cutscenes, took a side-trip to get Red XIII's Limited Moon weapon, and saved up.
