My fourth play session of Valkyrie Profile with four specific characters representing trope-inspired classes was played on the morning of January 14, 2025.

I started by going through the recruitment sequences for both Nanami and Yumei, and then heading back into Hai-Lan to get some gear.
Fuyuki is dissing his father. We found a Fragment of a Lapis Gem at the Hai-Lan seashore.
That took us 25 minutes or so. Goodness.

Next, I finally got Clockwork Mansion to show up. I had forgotten that the beginning is quite linear for a while. Battles were simple, too.
Lucian uses Shining Bolt on one of these centipede-like fellows doing tons of hits. Shiho has cast Heal.
I waffled a lot about whether to just follow a guide or not. I swear, I opened and closed Captain K's walkthrough of the game, open to the section about Clockwork Mansion, several times. I got off-pattern, tried to do it myself, and got stuck at least four times. Most of the problems I had, I'd say, were because I forgot you could do a sort of hand-over-hand movement on a horizontally-positioned ladder.
The interior of Clockwork Mansion, showing a situation where I am fully trapped.
In the end, I did end up following the guide... although I think it's kinda fair to say I was on to something at least once and foiled by input errors.

At the end, we had to fight a Chimera friend. His Three Deck ability - maybe another weird translation of Breath/Bracelet/Blessing? - inflicted lots of different status effects. Normalize ended up being useful. While I could probably just endure and take him out traditionally, I had a Beast Slayer and figured I could accelerate things.
Getting hit with Three Deck. Shiho usefully casts Normalize on Lucian. Jayle has killed the Chimera with her Beast Slayer.

We had a new Avoid ability to put some points in, so that was nice. After getting out of there, I realized I had never actually done full status images. This might be nice every so often to see how knightly, thiefy, or magey our people are.
Jayle the knight's stats at level 14. Lucian the thief's stats at level 14. Shiho the white mage's stats at level 14. Gandar the black mage's stats at level 14.

The treasure from Clockwork Mansion was nice! We got a Mirage Robe, which I put on Shiho since she's much more vulnerable than Gandar, and a Mirror of Pleiades which has a chance to reflect spells. I put that on Jayle for now.
The stat block for the Mirror of Pleiades.

Next was a Cave of Oblivion. I'm not too scared of the battles here anymore. This was reinforced with our first battle against some slime-like fellas, who were tougher than normal dungeon enemies recently but certainly not actually a huge challenge.
Lucian has knocked a ton of items and things out of a slime guy.
The second battle I encountered, however, was against four Fire Elementals. These were... not as easy.
Shiho is the last party member to die from the Fire Elementals' spells.
This wasn't very close or anything. Abilities like Gandar's Icicle Edge spell could deal some solid damage, but it wasn't going to be enough.

I decided to load my save and try again, since most of this seemed pretty manageable.
Unfortunately, I hadn't saved after defeating the boss of the Clockwork Mansion. That was silly! I had to fight that Chimera guy again. Honestly, I'm glad I did! When I fought it the first time, Lucian didn't have an opportunity to land an attack... but this time he did, extracting a treasure chest, as usual. It turns out that boss drops a Bracelet of Zoe! It's very nice for me to have a second one of those.

When I re-entered the Cave of Oblivion, I still did all of the fights except for the enemies that appear on the map as floating skulls, which includes Fire Elementals. I won the fights and got some goodies. I also got a few chests! There was nothing amazingly noteworthy inside but a few of them were rather well-hidden and I felt smart for finding them.
Look at how well hidden this chest is, behind the foreground elements!

After this, I prepped and transferred Kashell and Janus. In the sacred phase, both got excellent evaluations and our review was favorable.
Freya says "We are firmly in control." Our prizes from the sacred phase: 9 items, nothing amazing besides maybe the Holy Grail.
The prizes weren't outstanding. Reflect Sorcery may be useful for Shiho occasionally, and the Holy Grail is good but pays off slowly.

We wrapped up immediately at the start of chapter 4.
Party stats at the end of chapter 4, with levels of 14 and 15.
