This particular session was even shorter, a bit under an hour.
It started off with me having free control of the fire-powered ship. This meant I had things like access to lightning scrolls (fairly common drops from ocean enemies), harps, bard songs, and Ramuh. I had no particular plan but my weak bard with a dagger was definitely feeling like he was lagging behind the rest of the team without much to offer.
I knew that a few things I wanted were in Istory so I went for Ramuh first, and then I poked a sheep to get Romeo's Ballad. I went to Crescent, watched the ship sink, and got Mighty March and a new chocobo friend. Then I went to whatever Bartz' hometown is called in this version and got the Alluring Air song.
On the way to Jacohl (sp?), I used Alluring Air on some bomb enemies and got to see one using Self-Destruct to do exactly their max HP in damage to another bomb to defeat it, which for some reason seemed pretty novel. Having access to the confusion status is actually pretty nice. It was welcome having a functioning bard.
I had been excited to give my bard a harp. I guess when I recorded this I must not've known much about how harps work in this game; I believe they're based around a form of proportionate damage that makes them do pitiful damage to weak enemies (and truly worthwhile enemies are usually immune). This seems to have occurred to me around the 32-minute mark.
I think the sandworm battle doesn't appear like I was being the least bit strategic - it seems like I was just using a bunch of target-all attacks and then suffering the holes counter-attacks as if I had no idea of the gimmick. But the fact is, this party is pretty darn good at target-all attacks and I thought this would just be faster and easier! And Galuf died but otherwise it really wasn't bad at all.

I got through the rest of the desert and saved outside of whatever that abandoned earth crystal village place is called.
