This third session with the voweless knights was played on January 12, 2022.

In the previous session, we finished the Earth Cave and the Castle of Ordeals. The next place we'll be headed is the Ice Cave, but let's review our current equipment.
No OSilver Axe, Silver Bracelet, Silver Helm, Zeus Gauntlet, Silver Shield
No IRune Sword, Gold Bracelet, Wooden Helm, Copper Gauntlet, Buckler
No EDragon Sword, Iron Armor, Cap
No AIce Sword, Cloth, Silver Helm, Gloves, Silver Shield
As usual, the party order is set this way based on their absorb totals. No A actually has the highest HP right now.

When you're used to the first few versions of Final Fantasy, you know that the Ice Cave is basically designed for you to die pretty often. I saved outside and was perfectly ready for this to take a few shots. On the first attempt we quickly had one member petrified (which we could fix) and then two consecutive battles with Mages after that, the second of which finished us off with LIT3.

For attempt #2, I noticed that No O and No I having access to the Heal Staff and Zeus Gauntlet meant that itemcasting against groups of weaker enemies - and Wizards! - was considerably less painless. A group of undead stunlocked the group and defeated No O - currently our best-equipped knight. No E was killed shortly after by a Mage's RUB spell. No I and No O got the Flame Sword, which is nice for No I. No O was killed by another Mage's RUB spell moments later. Finally, No I was erased by the Eye's XXXX right away.

Attempt #3 started out badly, with another undead pack that my knights seemed to be refusing to run away from. They took a lot of damage and this time No I was killed. Then we ran into another 6 Wraiths who stunlocked and killed everyone else. (Note that this was still before 20 minutes play time.)

Attempt #4 was exciting because everyone was alive by the 2nd screen of the dungeon. In fact, we were all alive by the Eye! The Eye used XXXX to kill No A, but the rest of the team took out the Eye on turn 2.
We beat the Eye!
Now the hard part: getting out. The spiked undead square immediately after the Eye got "chance to strike first" and the entire team was quickly paralyzed... but we ran out with the three remaining knights alive after two or three turns. Then we ran away from Sorcerers before they could do anything. It was feeling like a lucky run! And then with the exit stairs literally on screen... stunlockin' Wraiths.
Stunlockin' Wraiths.

Attempt #5. We had much nicer encounter luck through to the Flame Sword chest. The undead spike tile was, again, an ambush, but we managed to get away with all knights alive. The Eye and other battles were on the easier side, and the second instance of the undead spike tile was a non-ambush with only six enemies. Finally, things were working out! We managed to exit with the Floater.

I went and collected the airship and then I thought about how to spend my money. I didn't even have enough for the plot-required Bottle but for some reason I thought I should buy at least one ProRing. I also decided to fill out the few white magic spells we could still learn. Our complete spell lists end up being like this:
No OCURE, RUSE / MUTE, ALIT, INVS / CUR2, AFIR
No EFOG / ALIT, INVS, LAMP / CUR2, AFIR
No ICURE, RUSE, FOG / MUTE, LAMP / CUR2
No ACURE, RUSE, FOG / MUTE, INVS / CUR2

Next, we decided to head to Gurgu Volcano. The items we were looking our for here were the Giant Sword (a minor upgrade for No E for a while), the Flame Shield (good for No O), and the Flame Armor (good for No I). We happened to get the Giant Sword when No E was at level 12; once he hits level 13, it'll give an extra hit as well.

Interestingly, in Gurgu Volcano, there was a part where I was speaking with a random viewer in the Twitch chat where I talked about Sullla and systemerror having funny, old-fashioned blogs documenting their novelty playthroughs. It feels all meta hearing myself say that now.

The Red D guarding the Flame Armor was a bit of a jerk. His Blaze attack did nearly 200 damage to No O, but thankfully he was taken out quickly.
We beat this Red D jerk.

We didn't really have access to whole lot of possible strategy for Kary. I had talked about the benefits of MUTE (or AFIR) but seeing as the team doesn't actually have magic charges yet, we just smashed her. She hit us pretty hard but she went down before any of us did.
We defeated Kary!

Having completed that journey and sold some goodies, I had over 80000G. This time, I bought the Bottle. I also got a second ProRing which is the last I'll need, and collected Oxyale before heading to Onrac. Before diving into the Sea Shrine, I thought I should do the Waterfall and get the Defense and Ribbon there.

The spiked tile in the Waterfall treasure room was a bit rough. No O is our only offensive-itemcasting knight with his Zeus Gauntlet, and he was petrified on the first turn. The remaining knights managed to beat the Coctrices, but the Mummies still killed No I before we won. I said, "Hopefully we don't run into Gas Dragons on the way out!".
It was a bad fight.

The Wizard Staff can be used by No E and No O, but I gave it to No E. I put the Ribbon on No E, and the Defense is good for several knights but I had an endgame-oriented plan to put it on No A. I accidentally triggered the spiked tile twice on the way out; the first time was fine, and the second time wasn't.
TPKO by mummy.
There was no real reason for this one to have gone so badly... but it did.

The next trip was, thankfully, less painful. The prizes worked out pretty well the same way. It took some time, but we got back safely, bought a few more consumables and saved in Onrac.
