I kept on truckin' with Final Fantasy III under Four Job Fiesta rules on October 20th. Magus is still not unlocked, although as I shared last time that arguably presents some opportunity because we can use two vikings.
We are starting from Doga's Manor, doing the Cave of the Circle.

Cave of the Circle is a fairly short and straightforward area. I didn't even bother trying to fight the enemies here and just ran from every battle, of which there were only a handful. We got through with no issues and thus got an underwater-capable ship.

With that, the next real stop would be the Temple of Time. However, there's the Sunken Cave in the southeast of the world that has a ton of treasure and I thought it was likely to have something valuable for us; it was pretty fantastic for my thief when I last played the 3D version of the game. Although I didn't want to do all of the sidequests now this ended up being a good decision: we got a Dual Tomahawk, a Triton Hammer, and some Reflective Mail among other less significant goodies.

This area was quite short and loaded with treasure.
From here we went to the Temple of Time which I remembered pretty well. I had been manhandled here in the 3D version in 2017. I was all ready with fire resistance because the Dragon enemies had been so tough! Well... nothing here was particularly tough. Admittedly our levels are roughly 40 now and we have a ton of money that I've spent on a ton of Hi-Potions, but even the Dragons and Behemoths weren't hard to beat.

We got Noah's Lute... and two Protect Rings! I had vague memories of a really good equip being here and this was it, although I only remember there being one. This was quite a score.

The vikings have had a fair bit of upgrades lately, like Diamond Armor, Diamond Helmets, and Diamond Gloves - although sometimes I'm swapping to Reflective Mail or something else for the sake of resistance. I put the Protect Rings on the warrior and onion knight, which is the first defensive boost either has had in ages.
We woke up Unei and did the Ancient Ruins.

I didn't take a lot of screenshots in the Ancient Ruins, but it was good. There are some splitting enemies like Eaters here, but they are no longer a real issue! I keep the onion knight in the back row either using Defend or throwing a Hi-Potion - which they can still do usefully on auto-battle. The warrior and vikings can beat the enemies in two attacks or sometimes just one if we're lucky. The warrior also recently got an upgrade in the Ancient Sword, which is actually fairly good! Its paralysis effect on enemies also seems to stop their dividing.
There wasn't much to buy at the shops in this dungeon but I appreciated them regardless. At the end, we got to the Invincible.

Here we were able to buy Dual Hakens and Triton Hammers to give our vikings a bit more of a boost. These may even be their best available weapons in this version of the game!
We used the Invincible to access Falgabard. It was no fun at all. I did the Shinobi fight because it seemed like I should but we gained basically nothing from it.

The enemies in the Falgabard Cave were tough. I ended up running at least once.

I believe I can safely confirm that your defense does not get set to zero when fleeing in this version of the game. After Archibald and Drile got clobbered, the vikings were taking mere double-digit damage from these guys while running away.
Now we are going to the Cave of Shadows. This involves the stupidity of very awkwardly controlling the Invincible flying over mountains in a maze-like pattern. This remains really bad game design. However, it was somewhat satisfying fighting aerial battles with cover fire.

Given the trouble I had in the Falgabard Cave, I wasn't super excited for the Cave of Shadows. However, I ended up fighting a rhythm that worked in battles. It took roughly 50 Hi-Potions, I think, but it was fine! Again, the onion knight remained in the back row usually throwing Hi-Potions even on auto-battle.

I got a lot of treasure here, but it was pretty much all unusable, mostly intended for dark knights (and eventually ninjas).
At some point, probably when I was micro-managing our HP gains, I took some new status pictures for the whole team.

The boss was Hecatoncheir. He had a really nasty physical attack that did 1200 damage, and also cast Quake spells. Quake looks pretty awesome in Pixel Remaster! But it's not very fun to be hit by. Still, probably less damaging than Garuda's Lightning. We won, but Archibald was dead because he got walloped by those physical attacks.

Then I was told I had to go eat dinner! We almost made it to unlocking Magus today, but unfortunately not quite. It will come fast next time we play. I saved outside Doga's Manor (again).
