This was played just the next day from the prior session, on October 2nd, 2017.

There were no technical issues again this time, which is exciting, but I still don't have much in the way of familiarity with this game and, in particular, its geography. This showed at the beginning of the play session as I flew around the world trying to find where to go next. My main idea was that, although I knew a few places I could go, I wanted to get Unei to join for the minor benefit having an NPC with the party brings.

I ended up at the Ancient Ruins, which I guess is good. This area is well known for its enemies that have a tendency to "multiply" which you can avoid by attacking with "dark swords" - which I don't believe I have access to. Ingus' Blood Sword seems to do the trick though. We backed out pretty quick when Arc died in our first battle against Eaters.
Arc goes down to Eaters.
I found Unei after our trip to revive Arc and got her to join.

I took Unei to the Saronia Catacombs. This area was technically available as soon as we had the Nautilus able to go underwater a little while back, so the random enemies here weren't very challenging. The moment I said the enemies were easy while playing, some Kyklops knocked out Arc in two attacks when they ambushed us.
Arc goes down.
I begrudingly used a rare Phoenix Down on him.

Almost immediately after, I found Odin hanging out in a room. I chose to fight him, although really we have very little to gain from it. Refia stole Gungnir from him, which is cool although our group has no use for it. Ingus and Arc applied Protect status to the team while Luneth used lightning attacks. Luneth was knocked out despite the care I was taking, but Arc got him up and the battle sort of stabilized from there.

I guess maybe because it's not an ATB-based game, I wasn't expecting Odin to actually use Zantetsuken in what seemed like a pretty standard slugfest... but it happened.
Odin used Zantetsuken.
The next turn wiped out the rest of the group, too. I hadn't saved my game to this point yet today, so I had to go get Unei again. That went pretty quickly.

Then, rather than taking another run at Odin, I went into the Sunken Cave. Some of the treasure was of very questionable use; much of it could've been useful earlier. At least there an Ancient Sword that I decided to use with Ingus (who may be an unwanted child) and an Air Knife that I seriously considered using with Refia. Offensively, that knife might be nice, but her Boomerang allows her to stay in the back row which definitely offers some advantages, so I was going to stick with that anyway... and then I found a Chakram, which made that decision even easier.

Before trying Odin again or proceeding with the story, I decided I wanted to go back into the Temple of Time where I had skipped a couple of fairly nice treasures. The enemies here, like the Chimera Mages, were already seeming a lot easier than the had in the previous session. The only noteworthy treasure here was the Protect Ring, which I gave to Arc.

At this point, I rested and thought I'd try the Saronia Catacombs again. Excitingly, my mages now have exactly 1 level 7 magic charge! But given that there's only 1, I didn't trek back to Doga's Village to grab spells for those. We got to Odin with a Protect Ring and marginally higher levels. Unei cast Haste on us this time, which I'm sure helped, and I remembered this time to use some of Luneth's higher-levelled spells. Our damage numbers ended up a fair bit higher and we beat him without any Zantetsukens.
No Zantetsukens!

We found our way into a pass-through-wall treasure room that included some trapped treasure chests. The enemies in the chests were from the next area, but that was the Temple of Time, so they were easy, and the chests had nothing amazingly valuable other than a few non-buyable Phoenix Downs. I had spotted some treasures I couldn't get to and kind of obsessively scoured the Saronia region trying to get them. They ended up containing two more Phoenix Downs. Very exciting.
