It was suggested that damage tiles in the volcano make for an easy way to rotate dead party members. Good advice!

I had a super great session last night. Italic for emphasis, not to indicate sarcasm. I mean, the team died a lot but they also accomplished a lot... starting with the Ice Cave.
I totally forgot I had already successfully walked out of Crescent Lake at the end of the previous session. I had been worried about leaving Crescent Lake, actually.

There were five TPKOs in the Ice Cave. The first was when Looki was the only survivor on the floor with the "hole room". He ran into a single Mage that got a surprise attack but started with a regular attack. I wasn't particularly hopeful, and that turned out to be the correct emotion to take as round two started with RUB.

The second was in a similar position but on a much better run. I had already beaten the EYE and I was just on my way to the exit. Tick was alive and actually pretty healthy when encountering two Sorcerers. I accidentally fast-forwarded and almost missed the moment completely, actually. That was a sad one.

The third was when Tick and Looki were both alive until they ran into three Mages, who on their surprise round deleted Tick and Looki from existence before they could get their commands. At least we hadn't gotten too far yet.

For the fourth, once again there was Tick facing down a single Mage. We had already beaten the EYE. I stopped and analyzed the situation, and gave Tick 1/3 odds of surviving. Tick swung his flame sword and did fairly good damage, but the Mage was able to take action. The Mage used a physical attack! Alas, Tick's inability to end it in one round sealed his own fate. It had been a good run to that point.

For the fifth, again, we made it past the Eye. Tick and Looki got deathtouched by a group of Sorcerers incredibly quickly. I said, "That was a super good run! I keep saying that! I keep dying, and saying it was a good run. Again, it all comes down to single moments here."

On the sixth run, we got out. The EYE battles themselves were not really that noteworthy. So, I managed the Ice Cave in six attempts, four of which got as far as the Eye. Not bad at all. The first death came really quickly but I'm glad I didn't get discouraged.

I had a pretty stupid initial run at the Volcano but ultimately I beat that, too. With its lack of instant death and the lovely lava tiles that don't have encounters, it went pretty smoothly. I died once against Kary mainly due to a lack of foresight + healing.

In the, uh, canon battle with Kary, it went well! Wood and Mars faced her down. Mars tried to land some status effects on her, like MUTE, but for some reason despite Kary's weakness to most status effect spells, I couldn't get anything to land. Wood's violence saved the day regardless.
Wrapping up the battle with Kary

Right now as of the end of that last session, my group is camped outside of Ordeals, in hopes of slaying ZomBULLs and getting Zeus Gauntlet, Heal Staff, Ice Sword, Gold Bracelet and Tail. I'm sure all of those will be pretty helpful (though some less so than in a normal run due to my restrictions).

I'm not sure what to do after. I love the idea of keeping Looki alive and un-class-changed to gain MDef but I know the impact of that decision is usually pretty trivial. I was considering going to Sea Shrine, getting Slab, visiting Unne, doing the ridiculous Lefein segment - keeping in mind that I will need to walk on every forest tile in that very large region... twice - then getting the Chime prior to class change or fighting more fiends. It probably makes sense to also do the Waterfall before all of that, since I don't have to walk on a forest tile.

I guess the question is: is deferring the class change for the benefit of a Bl.Belt's Mdef worth the trouble? I'm not honestly sure it is trouble, this all seems like a pretty reasonable route.
