This session was played on September 19, 2017. It mostly covers the Saronia-focused part of the game. Thankfully, I finally addressed the audio issues that were so bad in the previous couple of sessions.

From here on out, the playthrough was pretty well fresh for me; my prior experience with this game had ended at this point as I had decided I was going to max out HP by sticking to high-vitality jobs, which made the game too boring for me to want to keep playing. Well, this time I've got no control over stats at all, so let's just push onward.

First, I visited the villages of Replito and Duster but they really didn't have very much for me. I was sort of procrastinating because the next plot step in the game means losing my airship for, what, the fourth time so far? But realizing there was nothing else really to do, I headed over Saronia. What a big place! The next time the series does a settlement at least this big would be Midgar, right?

We rescued Prince Alus and talked to a man who decided to give us Dragon Mail. I was excited for that, but even our knight was unable to use it, so I supposed it must be dragoon-exclusive. This area is meant to encourage you to use dragoons, particularly against the next boss. For now, we climbed the Dragon Spire. The treasure in here contained a bunch of additional dragoon equipment - enough to properly outfit at least three dragoons! Well we're going to use zero of 'em. Even though the game is trying to strongly suggest using a specific job again, with our high job levels Refia and Ingus are pretty terrifying on the offense; Refia was regularly doing 1600+ damage and Ingus often over 2000. Changing jobs would seem like such a downgrade even if it were an option.
Ingus is strong now.

Prince Alus and Arc are now best friends who share parenting advice, which is definitely something the Pixel Remasters are missing. And then we had to battle Garuda! Refia and Ingus weren't doing their usual damage here, but it wasn't nothing.
Refia does between 200 and 300 damage.
Arc's Aero spells were doing over 600 damage and Luneth's few Blizzaga spells could do ~1700. So we were still able to chip away at Garuda despite our lack of dragoons. Particularly because of Luneth, beating Garuda without dragoons wasn't tough at all.
We defeated Garuda.

With that, the King of Saronia disappeared and we got access to a whole bunch of treasure chests, a few of which were exciting, like the Ice Rod.
We got a new Main Gauche that we may not use.
Some folks here referred us to the Dalg continent, and then we got access to the Nautilus. I was excited to get access to the shops in Saronia but there wasn't much; it happened that the northeastern part was the last one I visited, and it had a magic shop that included level 5 goodies like Thundaga, Curaga, and Raise. Protect is actually the first buff I've got access to. There were also a few rods and staves.

I didn't really know where to go, but sort of stumbled upon Doga's Manor. Doga joined and his moogle buddies were able to sell me level 6 magic. Since I'm hesitant to sell things though, I didn't have money for all of the spells... and we can't cast them yet regardless.

One of the Mognet fellows had me curious about sidequests. Someone was already talking about the master blacksmith, which made me want to check my job levels since I've been consistently in the same jobs. Refia's job level is the highest by quite a bit, and it's into the 70s, which is pretty great.

The Cave of the Circle is one of those mini-forced areas, but the enemies were weak enough to go down to itemcasts from Luneth's new Ice Rod. This area was quick and easy and cool-looking. Doga left at the end, only having cast a single spell to assist us.
Doga casts Flare. Once.

Now our Nautilus can go underwater. The fact that we can now fight fish while standing on the ocean floor remains mysterious.
Mysterious fish battle.

The first place I went with the Nautilus was Doga's village, which sells a whole bunch of magic through level 7. Arc and Luneth don't even have level 6 spell charges yet!

Character levels are all 30, and our job levels are 79 for Refia, 38 for Ingus, 49 for Arc and 51 for Luneth.
Character stats show up pretty nicely on the save screen.
