This session was played on August 23, 2018 - over 7 months after the prior session! It might seem like it's taking me some time to get my bearings at the start of this session, and it's because of this long hiatus. This isn't even the longest hiatus this run takes!

We entered Zirekile Falls. Gafgarion turned on us but, thankfully, he is a naked chemist, and he left the battle awfully early. Princess Ovelia - also a naked chemist, of course - actually clocked a knight in the face and knocked him out!
Princess Ovelia, featherweight boxing champion.
With Gafgarion and Delita out of the equation and with all of these guests being useless chemists to begin this, this battle against generic knights wasn't nearly as interesting as usual. Faris stole a helmet, then had her helmet smashed... it was all very cause-and-effect. At the end of the battle, I reduced the enemy forces to two knights who were polymorphed into frogs, one of whom was infatuated with Faris.
Froggy's in loooove.
At this point I considered the battle pretty well under control.

We backtracked for a bit of shopping, since we needed to replace Faris' Headgear anyway, and then went to Zaland Fort City. For some reason, Mustadio still had a gun, so I guess he hadn't been replaced with a naked chemist. I explained that this could easily have happened since there are technically multiple different instances of Mustadio in the game's data. Then again, he was set as a chemist instead of his usual default job. I'm not sure what happened there.

Lenna was able to take out some of the enemies over the city walls, and Faris walked in and seduced a knight. By the time Bartz entered the walls it felt like the battle was all but over.
Lenna's lightning dominated once again. Mustadio ended the battle with his illegal firearm.

Next was Bariaus Hill, our first battle facing summoners. Faris went first, and I tried to convince the archers to attack the summoners; no luck. One of the summoners managed a really well-positioned Ifrit that took out Faris, and we had only knocked out one archer. After a few easy battles, this started out feeling tight.
We got walloped by Ifrit.
We were really taking a pounding from the summons... but while I was trying to get my team back on their feet I realized the summoners were nearly out of MP. This allowed us to get up and re-take control. By the end, once again... there were frogs.
Frogs everywhere.

We visited Zigolis Swamp. Movement here is annoying and, indeed, I couldn't keep most characters out of the poisonous water. However, besides that. it was pretty easy. Faris' Secret Hunt actually came in handy to some extent, since undead enemies he kills have no chance to automatically revive after a few turns.
My first poach!

We arrived at Goug and ended up in the Bart Company fight, facing thieves, archers, and summoners. Mustadio was immediately stabbed to death by the thieves. Faris successfully seduced a thief afterward, causing one of the archers to attack their ally. Krile got a Shell up on us before we were targetted by a Shiva summon, so that was nice. I was tempted by the idea of seducing a summoner, too, but the success rates were low enough that Faris chose violence instead.

I was really pleased with the way enemies lined up for this Bolt 2 spell, but...
This was somewhat successful but not perfect.
That wasn't ideal. However, this was on a summoner with no summon spells so maybe not a big deal. Ramza seduced the more competent enemy summoner, Mayfield, immediately after. Mayfield aimed a Shiva at two of his allies to fairly good effect, using up the rest of his MP in the process. It was nice to finally see Faris' heart theft paying off.

A few turns later we were facing a frog archer and a summoner with no spells. Mustadio was back on his feet and throwing out not-very-necessary potions, which is great since it's how we gain chemist JP. I put the team on auto-battle and left to go to the bathroom, so naturally this happened:
Lenna speaks her spell quote, just before the battle ends.
Mustadio joined but we're never going to use him again. We may need him depending on our interest in late-game sidequests.

We did a few propositions since we're in a safe place for that; we may as well, with a few tough fights coming up. Faris was able to buy a new Green Beret and Krile and Lenna got some very nice new Wizard Robes. With the JP from Bart Company and the propositions, Faris learned Steal Accessory, Bartz got another break ability and Hi-Potion, Krile learned Raise 2, and Lenna got Counter Magic and Ice 2. Ice 2 might be useful since this part of the game features occasional enemies with Rubber Shoes.

Barius Valley is a pretty nice battle. I put Lenna on auto-battle and I immediately disagreed with her choices. Moments later, Krile and Faris were both face-down after getting walloped by knights and a multi-target Bolt spell in the rain.
This battle isn't going well.
And with that, we got the third game over of the run. Let's try that again.

In this second run, we put Shell on Krile and Faris. Faris seduced Dreyfuss the wizard, who stayed charmed long enough to actually help us by targetting two of his allies. Dreyfuss eventually got hit in a crossfire of spells, but Faris then won the heart of an enemy knight, who spent his turn casting Protect on our team.

There were a few solid moments like, when a wizard was charging Fire 3 at us, "I can probably kill him, but if I can't kill him, I'll charm him!".
We did not charm him.
There may have been a bit of luck going our way, but this second attempt went much better. Krile cast Holy on a frog, so that was nice. Good ol' Dreyfuss was the last opponent standing.

I chose to do one random battle at Barius Valley on purpose, procrastinating what I expected to be a fairly hard battle at the execution site. It involved a black chocobo, and those sometimes make issues for me, but I was able to take it out quite early and the rest of the battle was trivial.

The Golgorand Execution Site battle is another one with a rough reputation, one that I think is deserved; in our case, the enemies outnumber me 2-to-1 and they have favorable positioning. We at least had Gafgarion retreating before his second turn.
Gafgarion retreats.
Unfortunately, in this case, defeating the commander doesn't end the battle. The enemy time mages were hasting most of their troops and Krile and Lenna both got knocked out. For whatever reason I thought I'd put Bartz and Faris on auto-battle to see if they could figure out a way to stabilize things... and then Faris was affected by Stop. I reset before Bartz was taken out.

The second attempt didn't start out great, either. Lenna was affected by the chance to cause Stop from an enemy knight's Geomancy before she could use her excellent spells to thwart Gafgarion, and then Krile's 80% chance to revive Lenna failed. We revived Lenna a handful of times but we just couldn't keep her on her feet; Gafgarion repeatedly killed her before she got a turn. It generally felt like the battle wasn't going anywhere... and it went nowhere faster when the enemies were all hasted. We abandoned this attempt when Faris also died.

On attempt #3, we lucked out with the knights not having Geomancy, and Lenna was able to take out Gafgarion with an effectively-timed Bolt 2. Two knights gave Lenna perfect positioning to severely damage both with a spell. The numerous hasted opponents were still an issue, but it was a much more even battlefield than we'd been dealing with so far. We had trouble reviving Lenna at one point, and Bartz got affected by Stop, which left me nervous.
Can we win from this state?
Krile's Raise 2 failed on Lenna three times consecutively, which it really oughtn't have. We got her up with a Phoenix Down, but that has potential to introduce other problems. As my toddler son showed up in the background of my stream asking questions (including what the gallows platform was for), I found myself letting the game fastforward on auto-battle with predictable results, and that was all for now.

My toddler son observed my Game Over.
