The fifth session of this playthrough was played on September 15, 2018.

In order to prepare for more attempts at the Golgorand Execution Site battle, I did a random battle at Bariaus Valley. It didn't start super well, with Faris and Krile being subjected to a Mindflare's Mind Blast immediately.
Krile went berserk, which is not ideal.
I was trying to get Faris and Bartz' levels somewhat caught up with Lenna, since Lenna was level 15 but Bartz was down at 13. Consequently, I was trying to emphasize their actions but this was problematic with a berserk white mage running around clubbing enemies with a stick.
Krile clobbers a frog.

We did one more battle at Barius Valley after this one wrapped up, too. It was, again, a mix of goblins, squid fellas and a black chocobo that Faris promptly seduced. By the end of it, Faris was level 15, Bartz was level 14, Krile was level 16 and Lenna was level 16.

Then I took another attempt at Golgorand - #4! Just for some context, Gafgarion is level 17 in this fight, with seven allies having levels between 14 and 16. Faris was quickly criticalled by Night Sword and then failed to steal Gafgarion's weapon. Lenna landed an excellent multi-target spell on two archers, but we were already in a bit of a rough position. It was nice seeing Lenna use Counter Magic effectively on the time mages, but it didn't really bear fruit. Krile was knocked out rather quickly, too.
Down to Bartz.
Lenna ended up affected by Stop and was getting beaten pretty badly. I took a bit of a gambit to get on track by having Bartz break Gafgarion's weapon, but that didn't pay off either. Another Game Over followed shortly after.

I did another levelling battle at Barius Valley. Once again, I was trying to get Faris and Bartz caught up. After Krile applied some normal buffs, I kept Lenna on auto-battle set to "Run like a rabbit" and let Faris and Bartz figure things out. We didn't draw it out a whole lot, so I'm not sure this paid off very much. Faris gained level 16 and Bartz gained level 15 right at the end, which may help, although I still think I'll need some luck.

Golgorand Attempt #5! Immediately, Faris charmed a knight and then an archer sniped the knight back to its senses. Lenna aimed a Bolt 3 at three different enemies in a way that seemed really favorable, and also Counter Magic'd a Slow onto a Time Mage. Gafgarion happened to guard against the Bolt 3, but it was still quite a useful move since it hit the other enemies. Without a lot of other constructive options, Krile aimed a Holy spell at Gafgarion.
Gafgarion gets blasted with a Holy spell.
At this point, we had three enemies down, including Gafgarion, and our positioning was fairly good. We were closing the gap. Krile got Faris back on her feet. Lenna used a mixture of positioning and Counter Magic to set Slow on multiple opponents, and then turned a knight into a frog.

One of the two time mages kept hitting us with a stick, so Faris stole the stick. At this point, we were facing a disarmed time mage, a slow time mage, a critical knight, a frog, and one archer. Krile picked up a crystal so she could Holy a second time, and aimed it at the unarmed time mage while Lenna took out the other one.

The biggest problem remaining was the archer who had a big height advantage... until...
Faris steals the remaining archer's Ice Bow.
She wasn't going to be quite as threatening with no weapon. We were down to an unequipped archer and a frog. I am not entirely sure to what I can attribute the success of this particular attempt at the execution site battle; it really may have been luck.

Next up one would generally go to Lionel Castle. There's a trick you can do here, moving past Lionel Castle on the map as long as you don't select Lionel Castle itself. I was going to do this to complete a few propositions, but I ran into yet another random battle at Bariaus Valley. It was the same flavour as most of the others, with chocobos, goblins and squids. It was a boring battle, and at the end we prolonged it a bit with a speed broken, charmed, frog goblin... but only for a couple of turns.

At the end of that battle, I swapped over to Final Fantasy 1 (NES) to show off a Lua script I had been working on (including a bit of a callback to the VYUOKITE Avengers), so the session ended before Lionel Castle.
